Low Carb Flat Bread

Low Carb Flat Bread

One of the pitfalls of doing low carb or lchf is occasionally you realise that the things you used to eat are a missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle when it comes to a complete dining experience.

Some things you always took for granted and considered an essential part of a meal are no longer on the menu.

Is a Chinese meal complete without special fried rice, or is an Indian curry complete without the mango chutney and Naan bread?

The latter is the purpose of this post.

I’m a big fan of hot and spicy food and curry is always a welcome treat. So now I’m avoiding bread and sugary fruit, both Naan bread and mango chutney are well and truly off the menu, not to mention the bed of rice normally associated with a good Chicken Vindaloo or Beef Madras.

Like many of the recipes I post here, I found a low carb alternative to flat bread that does a pretty good impression of garlic Naan and makes a bowl of beef curry a lot closer to the old curry experience.

This flat “bread” is very quick to make and reasonably close to the real deal.

So let’s not muck around and get into it.

Low Carb Flat Bread Ingredients.

100g (3/4 cup) Coconut Flour.

15g Psyllium Husk.

Pinch of Salt.

2 Cups of Water.

Garlic Powder (a sprinkle to taste – Optional)

How to Make Low Carb Flat Bread

  1. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl.

  1. Add any flavourings like the Garlic Powder, herbs or whatever takes your fancy.

Optional garlic powder

Mix it all together.

The mix will resemble claggy jelly like wallpaper paste.

  1. Let the mixture rest for 15 minutes. This will allow the coconut flour to absorb all of the water. There is no yeast involved, so there is no proving or size increase of this dough mix.

  2. Knead the mixture into a dough ball

  1. Roll the dough balls flat and brush with Olive Oil and cook in a hot dry frying pan.

You can cover the pan with a lid to get the flat bread to puff up.

Then flip it like a pancake.

Cook through both sides and place on a cooling rack.

As the flat bread cools it will get firmer to resemble traditional flat breads.

Serve with something tasty, like this beef curry:

I really like it, it provides a side dish to calm down a spicy main. I guess you could pair these with anything like a chilli or use them as a soft keto taco shell.

I hope you give it a go.

Enjoy:
